For nine years UFC representatives went to NY's capitol Albany to try to get mixed martial arts legalized and regulated. Five times it passed the Senate but Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver refused to bring it to a vote. Last January, Silver resigned as Speaker, following his arrest on corruption charges; the wicked witch has since been convicted and sent to fail.
New Assembly Speaker, Carl Heastie, is a supporter of the MMA. However, last year the bill again passed the Senate, in multiple versions, but it did not get sufficient support in the Assembly, again.
So until last week, New York remained the only state or province in North America where MMA is prohibited. But amateur MMA contests are taking place, often without blood tests. It is known that fighters with Hepatitis and even HIV are competing in New York, but without Regulation, nothing is stopping them.
At long last the legislation passed. Las Vegas Review-Journal Adam Hill spoke with top UFC officials about the great march to regulation, that saw UFC VP for regulation Marc Ratner visit Albany over 20 times.

Epstein and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta estimated the organization spent more than $2 million lobbying for this legislation over the last eight years.
Fertitta, however, said no celebration was planned. That will come when the UFC holds its first event in the state.
According to Fertitta, the organization could hold two events in the state before the end of 2016. It’s very possible a smaller card will be held upstate in the fall with a potential mega-event at Madison Square Garden in November if all goes according to plan.
Fertitta said having mixed martial arts sanctioned in every state was an important part of the plan to grow the sport the company began when Zuffa purchased the UFC in 2001.
“We invested in the sport no differently than we’ve done over the last 15 or 16 years. It’s part of the process. You hire lobbyists, you go in and talk about what your position is and try to educate people. This process took us eight years. Finally we were able to get it done,” he said. “The biggest change was at the top with Speaker (Carl) Heastie who, whether he supported the bill or not, was willing to let the democratic process play out. The same can’t be said for the prior speaker.
“Now we can move on from what has been talked about in the past and focus on trying to put on big events.”

Considering how some States politics run, UFC is lucky they didn't have to spend more.

Even after $2million, the Fajita Bros. are still selling this organization of cоск-fighting.

Nobody seems to get that the more money/exposure the UFC makes the more fighters make. Like this stupid UFC 200 rematch is likely breaking the UFC PPV record which makes all the fighters on that card rich. What's going to happen after that when they walk into MSG with McGregor vs Edgar?

I wonder how much money Bellator spent.

Do you really believe every fighter on UFC 200 is going to get rich? Or did I misunderstand what you wrote?

A lot of people are going to make a lot of money that night, including fighters. Money they wouldn't get if they were on any other card.

You didn't answer my question. It's a simple yes or no. You sound like a politician. LOL

The answer is no. A select few will make more, but for most it doesn't matter what card they're on.

Yes all the fighters are going to get rich that night. Rich being a subjective term. Someone who makes 8K a fight who makes 100K that night would likely consider themselves rich.

lol how can you possibly know that? You don't think undercard fighters would get bonuses for being on a record breaking PPV?

You're delusional if you think everyone on that card is going to make $100K

Why is that so delusional? Neither of us have facts to back anything up except for the fact that there are locker room bonuses given out that aren't just POTN bonuses. I don't think it's delusional at all to think that each fighter is going to get a significant bump in pay that night outside of the contractual value.

It's kinda funny you say "lol how can you possibly know that?" after saying that guys who make $8K are going to be making $100K just because they happened to be booked on a big event.

Because the UFC isn't going to give anyone $100K if they don't move the needle. Sure there have been locker room bonuses. But nowhere near that amount for undercard fighters.
And $100K doesn't make you rich. Not by a long shot.
LOL. The UFC politician will say anything to try to make the UFC look better n

let's clarify something here. The UFC lobbied(bribed(yes it's the same thing) ) their way in New York state to the tune of $2,000,000 for their own benefit. Don't make it seem like it is some grand gesture on their part to their employees and the fans.

To be honest, I'm surprised it's not a lot more. No wonder it took so long to get MMA legalised.
