Houthis Lose Ground Along Strategic Bab Al Mandeb Strait In Saudi-Backed Counteroffensive

The Saudi-backed Yemeni forces battling the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels claim they have regained a large swath of territory in a new counteroffensive launched on Monday. This includes the recapture of the Red Sea port city of Mokha and other key positions near the highly-strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait (BAM). As we reported last month, the Houthis had taken these areas during an offensive of their own.

What would be first; Egypt or SA, I guess?
Saudi Arabia is one of the strongest on paper with the highest technology, but also has some of the most incompetent military leadership on earth. I would be willing to bet that, if given command of a suitably large force, I could easily defeat the Saudi military. They make astoundingly incompetent decisions.

Yeah, I would put Saudi Arabia #1 at first due to all the special toys they have, but when the first punch is thrown, they are Baath Iraq levels of backstabbing officer corps. Egypt would be #1 when actual fighting in concerned.

And we've only seen them in minor conflicts and counter insurgency. I can't imagine how badly they would fold against competent military leadership.

To add, I think the reason why Egypt is far more competent than SA at war is, as far as I read, Egyptians have mostly gotten away from clan lineages and the like and see themselves as Egyptians first and foremost. This clan structure and thinking is the biggest hold back for Arab (and Central Asian) development. Where MBS has to appease the various noble families by appointing someone's moron son as a colonel or else lose support from some specific clan within the kingdom. It's why many ME wars include regional militias and warlords. You don't see that in Latin America aside from drug lords.

It was breaking feudalism and allowing the burgher class to flourish the reason why Europe became a powerhouse. Where national identity overshadows who happens to be married to a first cousin.
