When someone mentioned Vox was actively monitoring their forums, that explained it all. They are certainly on the "woke" side of the spectrum.
Ganett media (who owns USA Today, who owns Junkie) own these forums. They don't actively manage/moderate things though (the admins here don't work for Ganett), mostly because no one on here as given them a reason to do so. Ganett has essentially deferred responsibility to the admins.
That's not to say it's a free for all and you can do anything... but the admins here are pretty lax when it comes to opinions.
The main things you can't do:
- porn (I know there's threads of near-porn, but it can't cross over into legit porn)
- spam/blatant advertising
- direct personal attacks on other members (you can disagree with people and say their idea is stupid, you can't tell them they are stupid and you especially can't use any information they've volunteered about themselves to attack them on a personal level)
- don't blatantly try to circumvent the language filters. It's fine to say f---, but don't try to use a $ to get around s--- for example
- We haven't really run into this, but you should probably try to avoid anything that the social media sites would flag as overt "hate speech"
Honestly, most of it comes down to common sense.
For example, it's fine to "advertise" something that you use and think other people should use by mentioning it once in an organic discussion. It's not fine to create a username that exists for the sole purpose of advertising something.

I can already tell that the current level of moderation here seems totally fine. There's a whole lot of stuff in the politics thread that would never survive on Mania. Cory would regularly delete posts from any political angle he disagreed with. And on some issues, he was
extremely
sensitive. I am also happy there is a political section to keep that stuff there for when one chooses to read it or engage with it. I strongly prefer rants about Trump/Biden not corrupt other topics, but it is fine to have a section for it specifically. I'm quite opinionated myself, but I don't need to think about that s--- constantly.
But, aside from most of us being rather crude and not used to a profanity filter, I think we will fit in just fine.
