I'm amazed he managed to beat BJ, I didn't see much of a path to victory for him at all. Now that he is the champ, who do you reckon deserves the first shot, and who do you reckon will get it?
If you go on record alone its pretty obvious that the first shot should be Maynards, but he's known as a bit of a boring fighter and has 6 decisions in a row. I think the UFC see him like Fitch, or Okami. Someone they don't want to give a title shot to and will put obstacles in their way to hopefully knock them out of contention.
i'd rather see Kenny Florian get the first shot at him. Depending how quickly they want Edgar to defend, putting Florian against Maynard might make sense. Any thoughts?

1) Florian
2) Maynard
3) Winner of Florian/Maynard
4) Instant rematch with Penn

I can't deny that I swore at the TV when the result was announced. Not sure what fight the judges saw but I saw Penn landing a lot more often and winning at least the first 3 rounds. I guess we'll know more when the compustrike numbers are up.

I bet right now Florian is kicking himself for not sticking and moving with Penn like he did with Heurta.
That GSP fight was the worst thing that happened to Florian. It motivated Penn to get into shape and it convinced Florian he should try and wear Penn down against the cage when his best chance was to keep moving.
And what is with all the posters on this board that automatically believe the fighter who is circling loses rounds? Penn tired and Edgar won the last 3 rounds. Granted, I have no clue what the judge who scored the fight 50-45 for Edgar was watching but nonetheless, Edgar was getting the better of the exchanges in the last 3 rounds.

I would love to see Florian Frankie for the title first and do Maynard BJ for a title shot or Florian Maynard for a shot its all a matter of preference atm

No matter your"rather", the clear shot should go to the one who has a win over Edgar and is unbeaten at 8 in the Division. Really, the only logical choice the UFC has to make. Kenny needs to be in the mix of Griffin, Sherk, Miller or Penn before sniffing a shot at the Title.
