Who's the better Wrestler? Chael Sonnen or GSP?

GSP is superior in every aspect of MMA. Chael P might have better true wrestling, but GSP has better MMA wrestling. He is able to do more and still maintain top control, and has much better ability to improve his position, not to mention can throw tons of submissions that are setup from wrestling.

I guess maybe the better question for this thread would have been who has the better MMA wrestling Vs who has the better TRUE wrestling cause some are arguing the different styles.
Either way, Sonnen having that weight and power definitely made a difference in his ability to take Silva down. GSP lacking that weight and power could make a difference.

You also have to consider whether or not you consider top control "wrestling" or "jiu jitsu". Although we see a lot of BJJ guys fighting off their backs, the basic principles of BJJ is to get an opponent down, get dominant position (top control) and submit.
If you'd asked who the better grappler was, the answer would easily be GSP.

Ya grappling incorporates both. GSP will be much better at Submission grappling that Sonnen which could make a difference. However Sonnens weight helped him stay on top of Silva. Sonnens Ground and pound is probably better as well. We'll see.

Yep. This isn't even a close between the two when it comes to who has the better mma wrestling. Chael has the edge when it comes to pure power, dude will just drag you down if he has to, but GSP makes up for that by being more explosive and more technically sound. He has no weaknesses on the ground either-whereas Chael clearly does.
If you put the two on a wrestling mat at a catweight than I think there's no doubt sonnen would win. But mma wrestling is different. Gsp can out wrestle just about anybody in the octagon cause his footwork and his ability to set up his takedowns are far superior to everyone else. And it doesn't hurt that he is an extremely intelligent fighter on top of his beastly athletisism.

Chael was successful with striking to set up many of his TD's in the first fight. Georges has the better striking and longer reach than Chael-add on he is much more technical and explosive(those are the td's that are hardy to stop and take more out of you) pretty much everywhere and I'm not sure how people don't see this fight is competitive.
I find it comical that people think that GSPs freakish uneducated wrestling,still gets underestimated..George manhandles every top wrestler under the sun,but still doesn't get the credit he deserves...That being said the size difference makes a huge difference in this debate,irrespective if George takes LHWs down in wrestling training or not.Sonnen is a different kettle of fish altogether..However if it was who was p4p the best wrestler? I would give the edge to George as he's shocked top level wrestlers in his weight category, ie Koshcheck,Hughes,Fitch,Trigg,Sherk etc...Can Chael do the same in his against the likes of Weidman Rashad etc?..He might not be able too...
The size factor will determine whether GSP can take Silva down,not if he's a better wrestler than Sonnen IMO...

GSP has better striking that allows for better set ups and makes it harder to defend takedowns.
GSP has better submission defense which allows him to maintain top control even in the guard.
GSP has better striking damage from the top which makes his top control more dangerous.
GSP has better jui jitsu which makes his top control and scrambles more dangerous.

This is arguable just as technically it all is but he has faced more and better wrestlers, Koscheck, Fitch, Shields, Hughes, etc.
Since you asked who is the better wrestler and not who has better takedowns, I think the answer is easier.
Chael is obviously the better actual wrestler, but GSP is the better MMA wrestler. Since MMA wrestling contains both takedowns and takedown defense, GSP has the edge. When it comes to offense, I still think GSP is better than Sonnen (like with anything we should look at caliber of opponents taken down - GSP wins in that arena by a mile), but I'll concede the point for the sake of argument. Let's say it's close or you have Sonnen having somewhat better takedowns. GSP has a pretty big advantage over him in takedown defense. Chael Sonnen was taken down by Bisping and Marquardt. GSP was taken down by Koscheck (a better wrestler than anybody Chael has faced), but also showed spectacular TDD against him.
GSP is the better grappler and the better wrestler. The real question is 'who is the better takedown artist?'
Edit: GSP also has better positional dominance and submission defense when it hits the mat.
Edit 2: Chael was also thrown/tripped into S-mount by Maia.
As it pertains to AS, then Chael has a FAR superior wrestling over GSP. #1 reason- AS is right leg lead and Chael is right leg lead which allows Chael to get to the back leg of AS and thereby a double leg takedown. GSP, on the other hand, fights orthodox (left leg lead) therefore AS's back leg will be 2-3 feet farther away than it is with Chael.
GSP has a great double leg when facing another left leg lead. (he is also very adept at getting his opponent to follow him and then he can lower his level and get deep in on a leg-attack).
Chael was a World University Silver medalist in Greco Roman (25 years old and down).
