Believe it or not, but UFC 98: “Lesnar vs. Mir 2″ just got better.
Former number one middleweight contender Yushin Okami will return to the Octagon to challenge surging 185-pound stand out Dan Miller at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 23.
Okami bested Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Dean Lister at UFC 92: “The Ultimate 2008″ in Dec. 2008, re-establishing himself as a top contender in the middleweight division. “Thunder” was the front runner to challenge 185-pound stalwart Anderson Silva for his division title before the Lister match; however, he was sidelined with a hand injury that temporarily derailed his championship aspirations.
The Japanese import — who holds a controversial win over Silva under the Rumble on the Rock banner — has won seven of eight fights inside the Octagon. His lone loss during that span was to former champion Rich Franklin back at UFC 72: “Victory” in June 2007.
With a win over a Miller — a very tough and underestimated competitor — Okami would certainly appear to be back in the hunt. In fact, UFC President Dana White already indicated at the UFC 92 post-event press conference that Okami had earned a crack at the belt … again.
It appears that Miller may now be the only thing standing in his way.
Miller was among several talented IFL fighters who Zuffa picked up when the promotion folded back in 2008. He was the last man to hold the IFL title; however, he was never able to defend the belt after defeating Ryan McGivern via submission (kneebar) to win it back in May.
A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Miller defeated Rob Kimmons via first round submission in his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 15 in September 2008. Four weeks later he followed that up with an encore performance, stepping in for an injured Ricardo Almeida to topple Matt Horwich via unanimous decision at UFC 90: “Silva vs. Cote.”
Most recently, Miller filled in again as a replacement to school blue chip prospect, Jake Rosholt, via submission (guillotine choke) at UFC Fight Night 17. It was another big win for the New Jersey native who trains at AMA Fight Club; however, Okami will certainly be his toughest test to date.
This is a great match up that pits two of the best in the division against one another for the right to join Demian Maia and Nate Marquardt in the suddenly crowded 185-pound division title challenger picture. Indeed, the winner of this match could fly under the radar and emerge as a serious threat as the action all unfolds in the coming months.

Wow, thats a great addition to the card. UFC 98 is looking good with:
Mir-Lesnar
Serra-Hughes
Okami-Miller
Sherk-Edgar
that is a quality lineup

Totally. And Serra and Hughes are not relevant in the upper echelon of that divison anymore. However I really want to see that fight. I think Matt Serra will win. I am loving Okami Miller. Wow. Its a really tough call. they should have done this a year layta. Right now, I think Okami is such a powerdude he will get a deciison over Miller.

We'll definitely get to see where Dan Miller is at with this fight.

What bothers me is that with a match like this it seems they are doing what they can to get Okami out of the title picture. Which is strange and disturbing to me. Now Okami made some ugly anti American comments earlier in his career, I am wondering if this has anything to do with that. And what he said, I did not like, it offended me. But I still am interested as a fan to see him fight Anderson. Think about this, from both the ufc perspective and Anderson. This is the last guy to beat him, and he did not beat him but got a victory on a technicality. Albeit a Anderson should not have done that. Now even though Okami is first rate, Anderson is good enough to beat him. Let Anderson beat him, it furthers his legacy ya feelme. And if Okami wins, then he was good enough and deserved the win. And promote Okami just in case that does happen.

If Yushin Okami wins this, then it's nice that he gets the cage rust out before he gets a title shot. If Miller wins, than Okami wouldn't have been ready for the title shot anyways.

Great fight.
Okami by UD is a smart pick. I just think he's more well rounded/fought the who's who more/better experience. Can't see Miller submitting or out striking him, as well as out wrestling him.

Will this be on the main card or undercard?

I see Okami taking Miller out, Miller is taking a jump with the contenders a little too fast.

I agree with you and Jak, while this may appear on the surface to be a "step down" in competition for Yushin Okami, it really isn't. It's a great test to see where both fighters are at, if Miller can pull the upset than I will be not only very surprised but very excited to see who he will fight next. However, if Okami wins, which is pretty much 80% likely, I still think he may need another win before getting a crack at Anderson. That is of course if he doesn't win this fight in dominating fashion, if not by TKO by a landslide type decision.

I dont know about that. The Millers brothers have good jiujitsu. They both have 1 loss on their records, and both were by decision. The majority of their wins come by sub too

This is definately an attempt to get Okami out of the title hunt. It's clear the UFC brass tries not to reward "boring" fighters. And Okami has the worst rep in the UFC for that label now that Machida has a couple stoppages on his resume.
Looks really close to me on paper. I'll be very interested to see if Miller can force Okami into an entertaining fight. Okami by smother seems like a very real possibility.

Okami has 8 fights in the UFC and has only stopped his opponent twice and neither time was by submission. Miller has great jitz so this is not likely.

None of Okami's UFC wins (and he's been in the UFC for over 2 years now) have been over guys that are contenders today at MW. Not Lister, not Tanner, not Swick. The ONLY guy who is a contender at MW today that he has fought in the UFC is Franklin, and he lost. I think Okami deserves a fight against a top contender, but not a title shot.

This guy probably should have had his shot already. It's too bad now that there are guys like Maia, and Marquart again that are probably going to shoot past Okami in the MW title picture.
