Crete's Corner

Well, it's Friday, and it's time for the cheat meal. Tonight I'm having a barbecue pork cuban sandwich with honeyed brussel sprouts and some fried cheese curds. A good one, I'm very excited.

But, my guiltiest culinary pleasure? Judge all you want, but gas station food. Gas station hot dogs, burgers, the taquitos, the pizza all that shit I just love. It's not GOOD, but idk, there's just something about it that just...mmmm. My absolute favorite is the gas station hotdogs. IDK why but something about that open air hot dog aquarium thing they cook in with a semi stale bun just makes them fuckin HIT like nothing else can.

Now, I'm not a World Cup or soccer fan, but I got a huge kick out of this past one when the videos were cropping up of foreign visitors experiencing the gas station experience like Buccees or Maverick or Kwik Star. Idk why, but I never quite realized that that experience I take for granted isn't universal.

So, today's Crete Thoughts #3: What is your favorite gas station food? OR, if you don't like it or are one of our foreign friends who doesn't have these gas station delights, what is your biggest culinary guilty pleasure?

I never listened to Paramore but Evanescence definitely got the the Christian stamp of approval. The "Wake Me Up Song" features the lead singer of 12 Stones Paul McCoy. Another band that Christians attempted to adopt.

Creed and Chevelle are two more that Christians claimed. Heck, we sometimes sang "What's This Life For" in youth group. Needless to say, Christian youths bent over backwards to convince themselves and their parents a band was Christian. I did manage to have the first 3 Creed albums when they came out in my late teens and listened to them on repeat.
Christafari, anyone?

Crete Thoughts #4:

It's Sunday, the start of a new week. In the past, I've found myself dreading the start of a new week. Having to go to work, having to plug back in, having to hit the treadmill running with my arms outstretched reaching for Friday.

But I've tried to change my mindset a while ago. I no longer have to go to work, I get to go to work and earn a living to provide for my family. I don't have to plug back in, I get to lock in for another week of trying to accomplish my goals. I'm still reaching for Friday, not to put the week behind me, but to look back and see what I've been able to get done and move forward.

And that got me thinking about goals. I'm a very goal oriented person and I believe that we all need some goal to chase, some mountain to climb. My current goals, not just this week but overall are: trim off about five pounds in the next eight weeks to get to 12% body fat, continue at my current pace of exercising without injury, atgemd big birdwatching thing in 8 weeks, become a more engaged member of my community, continue working on my relationship with my lady (to include the dreaded couples counseling), be a present father when the tiny human goes back to school, and focus on getting enough sleep each night.

So Im wondering: what are y'all's goals? Can be for the week, the month, the year, overall, whatever mountain you're trying to summit. Or if you're someone who doesn't really do the whole goal thing...what do you do to progress and avoid stagnation?

I know what my goals need to be but all I've been doing is trying to make money. They need to be start seeing the kids that don't live with me more and start excersing and eating better so I can live long enough to see my granddaughter graduate which I imagine that if I make it that far it will be the last stepping stone I see her reach.

No judgement, but what's stopping you from doing those things?

Hey, sometimes we have goals but life is like 'nah' and you only have the bandwidth to do what you can do, no shame in that. If that's the case, I get it. Just curious tho.

Ok, lets read into business strategy etc later. I'm only asking for good faith readings of the qoute as is and to use it as a case study on where the language gap lies between myself and others or that there's maybe others that read as I do.

So quote only, exclusive to this one question please.

If you wanna talk tko shit elsewhere we can
But it is a meeting of investors. which are almost always inherently vague and purposefully obscure.

He cannot say they are competition or the stock might go down. He cannot ignore them as then he loses trust and the stock might go down. he cannot be aggressive as that can be taken as weakness and the stock might go down. So he insulted both, then insinuated that they still are not worth looking closely at (using "conjure" specifically as a way to denigrate the side who aspect of MVP's last MMA event that really did come out of nowhere with Gina).

I think that this is a terrible case study if you are trying to understand the written language better as it is purposeful in its poor grammar.

The Christian upbringing is just something I laugh at now.
As I age, I truly love the fundamentals of Christianity. Golden Rule. Do Unto Others. Be Kind. Be Charitable. Love thy Neighbor. All of the things that make you a good human being in a community of good human beings.

But I left Catholicism a long time ago. Tried being a Protestant when my father died as I was a bit lost. Both failed me in ways that can only be described as proof to me that organized religion is almost as bad as politics in their quest for power and authority.

So I will go to my grave believing in a benevolent God that allows my soul to live never ending all the while touting the evils of organized religion and the hypocrisy by which they live.

I am not a personal goal setter any more as I fail them too often, which is really weird as I set very purposeful goals at work and hit them more often than not. I think there may be some intentional avoidance because I am more confident in the financial ones. They have always come easy.

What is your advice for someone that has wanted to lose weight and just cannot seem to take the first step?

BTW, congrats on the counseling. I have not had time to read all the posts where you kept everyone up to date, but that makes me happy for you. It also makes me proud of you. That was a big step.

No, but its not though. Everything that needs to be understood is in the exchange. One was a shit company, the other was a shit company, lets see what they do. [Extra to that] we always thrive with competition.

Thats (AS SUCH IF) they manage to become competition we will thrive regardless. That's the context of the pacing

Thats the whole exchange, in reading the exchange and understanding the subtext.

Explain how its not?

Oh, and lets address fiduciary duty requiring transparancy on investor updates...

I like what you are doing with this thread.
It’s essentially what I intended the gay thread to be but unfortunately the title led to an image of some other concept.
In answer, I’m very much the same. I can’t live just to work or be content. I have some burning passion to do some things well at all times. MTB is not one of them. It's more like swimming in the ocean (which I also love). A chance to zone out and exercise in nature with no goal.
It is a bit OCD but keeps me positive and pro-active. For this reason I curate a lifestyle that involves free time. Then I can think about what to do with that spare capacity.
Previously it was the music and food/ entrainments business. I loved it but it reached a natural ending with Covid.
Now I’ve pivoted to my first loves, sports and academia.
It seems a bit more meritocratic and it was something left unfinished from my 20s, so why not go back to do it now but I’m a bit older and still in decent enough shape to coach and play sports but definitely in very good shape to write and study.
My study combines the two. I did honestly think of studying shoes impact on feet. This is the truth, but as much as I love physiology and kinesiology, I felt like the study of group dynamics through organizational techniques and hormonal analysis was much more practical and applicable to a wide area. writing this masters thesis has been so enjoyable. I have to be very exacting with my statistical analysis and also be inventive and creative with my hypothesis in order to create something interesting which raises the readers eyebrow and makes them want to read on. it’s a bit like trying to produce your best piece of music from the start creating a beat right down to the end of editing it for audio technicalities. Very similar mentality.
Next year I go onto the PhD and by the time I’m finished with all this stuff I’ll be only about 10 years from retirement age. It doesn’t matter because the process of doing it is so beneficial to my daily well-being and it’s another tick on the bucket list.
