Fight Announcements

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is headed back to Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City on July 18 but has yet to announce the five-round main event. The rumor mill has former middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis tangling with ex-welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman, which is all the sportsbooks needed to open the betting line for their unofficial showdown.

DDP gonna retire usman.

1 - The current run of the names on what is presumably the main card
Whittaker (0-2, 3-4)
Edwards (0-3)
Garbrandt (1-2)
Krylov (1-2)
McGregor (1-3)

2 - Paddy and Cody(and Max) are coming off title fight loses, typically that means they are going to be sluggish and the chances of those fights being good are slight. Also it's Bautista and his fights typically aren't that great.

3 - No title fights so they are banking on Conor showing up and we know about Conor and his unlikeness to pass a drug test, physical test. So that's a possible disaster.

4 - The prelims are likely going to be all quick finishes and the main card all decisions which means you'll be watching a bunch of ads all night before getting to dull fights.

So if you are hyped for this card..great good for you. To me this looks like the worst card of the year.

Apparently Gillian Robertson is gonna be facing Dern for the title... glad Gillian will be champ, I really enjoy her.

I don’t get it. Usman comes in at 170 against Buckley and Buckleys a -245 favourite, has a dominating performance, putting himself in close title contention for the belt, then decides to move up a division to face someone that’s probably going to be a bit more difficult to beat. I don’t know if this is him and Islams managers doing or what.

The only conclusion I can think of is the weight cuts getting harder, Usman moved up on 10 days notice against Chimaev, made a good account of himself and fancies his chances against DDP. If he beats him he would be there or thereabouts for a title shot, but Usman stylistically is a tougher fight for Islam than Prates and Garry would be, he would really make Islam work for those takedowns and big punches from Usman could potentially give Islam problems on the feet. He must really fancy his chances vs DDP.

I think you're right. He must have seen Chimaev's lay-n-pray and thought I can do that too.

he's old, slow with no knees and he's collecting a paycheck.
DDP gonna whup on him. (yeah yeah I said the same thing about Buckley)

I’m interested to see this one FS.
Usman must be relatively confident that he has enough mobility and the painkillers are good enough to get him through it.,
Look how well he did against Chimaev too.
Intriguing contest.
DDP, Strickland, Whittaker, GSP all came from WW . That’s a fair portion of the past 10 years champs, so I’m not buying that Usman is too small.
Just can he avoid the punches well enough. I’ve never thought he has a great chin.

I’ve never thought he has a great chin.
I’ve never really thought he had a weak chin either. That shin kick from hell would’ve probably flatlined every WW on the planet. That’s his only ko loss on his record, got hurt off Gilbert, came back, knocked him out. Been buzzed a few times but I would say his chins definitely not weak.

So Chimaev wants to wrestle and wants you to struggle so in your twists you leave something open and he submits you. Usman just lays and prays and pretends he's a striker sometimes. (his striking only works cuz his threat of wrestling, it's so stiff) But getting up is going to exhaust him and you, he's not going to submit you.
DDP is a big boy and he used to know how to wrestle. If he just stands up (Sean Strickland/Derrick Lewis style), Usman is going to get worn down trying to wrestle and he's gonna get beat up on the feet.

Well Usmans a blackbelt and I’m sure if someone gave him the opportunity to submit them he’ll try and take it, but in Usmans defence, wrestling’s his bread and butter. He predominantly uses it to stay vertical or take them down(like GSP always done), not to mention he’s faced competent grapplers. His boxings his secondary weapon but carries lot of power, especially in his right hand. The fight with DDP is interesting cuz Dricus can do it all, but I disagree that Usman will get worn down. Have we ever seen him worn down in any fight, even 10 days notice against Chimaev? I have to say I have not and he’s getting a full camp here. His cardio’s always been top notch but I understand hes getting older and his knees.

I got DDP, probably by decision, size, conditioning and well roundedness, but Usman will make it competitive at least.

oh i don't think it's gonna be a wipeout, Usman even at his advanced age is a serious player, but Father Time comes for everyone. He looked great against Buckley, but his 3 fights before that, not so much. He's another year older now and Buckley just proved again he can't wrestle worth shit.

Usman has ONE submission finish in his entire career. (in 2015 on TUF I had to look it up). he's NOT a submission threat. You can struggle and flow and get out (which he admittedly is going to make super hard) but you're not going to get choked out. He hits hard cuz he plants his feet (his footwork is bad) cuz he honestly doesn't care much about being taken down. But the whole world sees it coming (ok Masvidal didn't that one time, that was a great KO) but everyone else does. And that was years ago at this point. Bro is a decision machine.

DDP by KO, or wide decision. (yeah he's doomed now)

Kevin Holland vs. Jacobe Smith booked for UFC Oklahoma City on July 18

Welterweight fan favorite Kevin Holland is set to collide with rising prospect Jacobe Smith at UFC Oklahoma City on Sat., July 18, 2026, inside Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

And interestingly enough, this fight did not come out of nowhere.
Following his win over Harrell, Smith specifically called out Holland after a UFC commentator, Daniel Cormier, told him that “Trailblazer” would “whoop his ass.”
Well, now he gets the chance to prove otherwise.
