Yea, it wasn't horrible... but it also wasn't an idea/story that needed to be made into a full length big budget movie.

The story probably would have worked better as a 6-8 epsiode TV season on D+.
 
Watched Evil Dead Burn yesterday. What a shit show. I'm a huge fan of the series and thought Rise was very good. But this one? Doesn't even feel like a Evil Dead movie, at all.

Story? Kinda! Backstory of the grandpa being a researcher and specialist on the Necronomicon and he apparently found a way to kill the deadites. He's been dead a long time. So, his family is a target for the deadites of course.

For the first time EVER the deadites don't need to be summon to appear, oh no. They just appeared, somehow, in the middle of a lake to 2 men who have absolutely NOTHING to do with grandpa's family. Anyway, the deadites come knocking at grandpa's place where his daughter still lives with some relatives.

And then the shit hit the fan. Of all the characters, not one is likeable, NOT ONE. Not even the fucking dog. So blood and gore happens, a lot and that's the story.

I was hoping for everyone to die and fast because I was already bored to death.

They didn't even try to put in some new nasty ways to kill the people.

Bland cheap paint by number horror movie.

Just watched this.

I agree, main chicks performance was very solid but everything else was meh/familiar territory... it got really over the top towards the end but there's a number of similar Blumhouse projects so it wasn't groundbreaking or anything.

It is mpressive that they shot it all on under $1,000,000... but I thought the writing was clunky and there were some pacing issues.

I don't know that I'd be in on a sequel... I'd need to hear from people whose opinions I trust on if it's worth it.

A sequel would probably be like Blair Witch. First one is good because of it's low-budget, poor production quirkiness. Sequel goes all real-budget-hollywood and sucks.

I should have mentioned that knowing it made a crazy amount of money and everyone gave it rave reviews probably did impact my mindset going in a bit.

My opinion while watching it wasn't ever, "THIS pile of garbage made half a billion dollars!?!"

It was more, "Hmm, I get it.. it's a pretty basic story, but it has a couple viral scenes/moments and a great performance by the lead actress. Makes sense that it took off but it's not like they re-invented the wheel or anything."

I kept waiting for that "woah" moment where it did something unique... but it was a pretty typical lifting of elements of "The Monkeys Paw" story with pretty typical results. As mentioned before, the actress elevated it with her performance... and credit to the director for making it look like a $10,000,000-$20,000,000 movie on a $750,000 budget. If you had asked me to guess how much was spent without knowing there's no way I'm anywhere near $750,000.

My pitch, kind of like smile, where the next person who makes the wish tries to find a way to break the spell. They find Nikki
in a mental institution and either break her out or interview her
insert crazy stuff, end.
