Tales of Everyday Life

2 job opportunities for the exact same type of job.i work in youth sports.

Job 1: lower pay, easier job (less athletes to deal with) , worse facility (ni gym), perhaps more weekend involvement, less benefits, I'm in charge or the "program".

Job 2: higher pay, better benefits, better facilities, part of a "team" much harder job (3 times as many athletes) , but less expectations and I'm not in charge.

Thoughts?

2... unless there is some kind of ownership equity stake that is involved with 1 that would make it make sense.

If you're 'in charge' of the program and take it to the moon, but some other person/group ends up reaping all the benefits... that makes 1 make even less sense.

If you're truly in charge and are being given an ownership stake and you get a cut of the revenue as you grow it? I could better argue for 1.

Given what you told us... 2 is the easy choice.

I was ready to murder my daughter yesterday.

So, with it being Mother's Day my wife wants to do Texas de Brazil (all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse). I said fine, booked us a reservation at 6:15.

At 5 PM my daughter is devouring a bag of Taki's... I knock it out of her hand and I'm like, "the fuck are you doing? We're going to an all you can eat steakhouse in an hour!!". She's like, "WHAT!? I was hungry, jeez, I'll eat steak later, relax!"

We get to the restaurant and of course they ask if she's 12 (if you are, you are half price), she says, "oh no, I'm 13". Which was fine, she is. Though, I also would have been fine if she said she was 12 and saved me $40... but whatever.

Any who, she loads a plate up with salad, and then downs 6-8 mini-dinner rolls... then she asks for ONE thin little piece of sirloin and announces, "I'm done".

I was about ready to flip the table over... that one little thin cut of sirloin just doubled her price... and she's already being charged as an adult.

Literally, paid $80-85 (after tip) for her to have a plate of salad with some cheese crumbles on top of it, a bunch of croutons and some mini-dinner rolls.

Oh, and course she orders one of the only non-alcoholic drinks that doesn't have free refills... so there's another $12 on lime drinks when my wife and I had $4 iced tea.

Never again, I told her that she's banned from family buffet trips. If she ever wants to come to a nice buffet again she can pay for her seat herself.

I went to a Golden Corral once... that was enough for a lifetime.

We don't go out to eat often, but if we do it's gotta be somewhat fancy.

This is the most Dad-rant of all time, and I absolutely am 100% here for it and in your corner.

Job 2 no brainer to me

Upon further review...pay might be a lot closer than anticipated.

Looking at 50ish middle school underprivileged athletes to deal with per session.
Or 25ish middle school athletes.

I'm trying to negotiate the pay. We'll see how it goes.

Do they know about your stance on shopping carts? I feel like they should, I would want to know if my kid is around one of you people.

when you say "underprivileged" ummmm what does that mean?
is that like "a good school district"

Like poor bad kids compared to regular kids.

Yeah, but that one is just whites and Asians.

And remember this is coaching. Statistically, job #1 is his best chance of finding a future pro he can hitch his wagon to

Correct, if you're looking to be a professional coach (that's where the majority of your income derives from) there's 3 proven ways to do it without being a teacher first and coach second:

1) You become a grad assistant/unpaid intern and make $20,000 a year and have 10 roommates for a few years and jump your way across the country taking upgrades

(I'm assuming that's not the window for rhino due to age)

2) You find a superstar and you get him to take you wherever he goes as a package deal

3) You build a powerhouse program and a college or rich private school makes you can offer to jump ship and be their guy.

Either way, you need the best athletes possible to achieve outcome 2 or 3.

If you're a teacher first and coaching is your side gig... then by all means take the job at the local high school and go the best you can with what the community provides. Maybe you luck out and build a state powerhouse and a college lures you away. Or, maybe you stay there forever and get the field/gym named after you and be a local legend. You're not going to make as much that way, but that might not be as important to you.

If you're just looking to pick up some additional cash though, ignore all of the above.

You can make a nice supplemental income coaching... there's no rule that says you need to try to be the next Bill Belichick or Steve Kerr.

I coached at my old high school for 2 seasons and make a nice side chuck of change. Did it up until I moved to another town and got a raise at my full time job.

This is where lying to yourself can really help out.
pretend she had skewer carving of everything they brought around, plus 27 chicken hearts and 49 shrimp.
