I gotta throw this one out to the Junkies and get some feedback on if I'm handling this appropriately.
So, my best friend (legit best friend, best man each others weddings... well, each of our first weddings at least) got married for a second time last year.
Him and his second wife had a really small ceremony in Hawaii that was just them and their immediate families (parents and siblings). There was never an 'official' Bachelor party for the second wedding, but... before they went to Hawaii there was a HUGE 'engagement' party with drinks and bands and the whole 9 yards. Also, my buddy explicitly told me he didn't need a 2nd Bachelor party because the first one was epic... and because his biological brother died between then and now and he would have wanted him to be part of it and it wouldn't feel right doing it without him in the mix.
All good with me, and while we speak all the time, we hadn't spoke of anything wedding/bachelor party related between then and yesterday.
Smash cut to yesterday....
I'm sitting on my couch watching a movie with the family and I get a text from one our mutual friends (who recently got divorced) who is apparently organizing an 'official' Bachelor party for my buddy. It's going to be in Nashville, it's in less than 3 months, it's right before the holidays and he wants to go all our and rent out some mansion and have it be a 4 night/5 day event.
I look at the text like, "What the fuck is going on?". I show it to my wife and she's like, "wait, is he getting married again?".
We're both VERY confused.
I reach out to the guy who sent the text and he's like, "they never had an official wedding" and I'm like beyond confused at this point. I go thru my texts and I see where he gave me the heads up he was 'officially' getting married. I even go on social media and I see his public post where he announces him and his wife got married.
I respond to the guy with the picture from social media and I'm like, "Dude, he's officially married... what are you talking about?"
Finally I get this response back, "Well yea, but he couldn't do anything last year because he only has so much vacation time. So, we're going to start a new trend and do a 'if it doesn't work out' Bachelor party now".
I think this is the most ridiculous thing ever. I understand it's not a week away (it's about 2 and a half months from now), but it's pretty short notice for something like this when you factor in the length (4 nights, 5 days) and the fact that it's going to involve travel (I'd have to fly in or rent a car for the week).
If my buddy was legitimately getting married I'd be all in (and I'd be the one setting everything up, like I did for his first wedding)... he got married 10 months ago! Who has a destination Bachelor party 10 months after getting married?
I feel like this is 100% designed for the guy who sent the text because he went thru a messy divorce and he's trying to pretend like it's not for him and it's for our buddy.
I'm ready to go off on him and tell him he's a complete asshole for trying to design this as something for our buddy when it's really to lighten his own financial load on a near week long trip to Nashville.. but maybe I'm overreacting and the proper response is just to say that I've got something else going on that weekend (I don't, but I can make something up) and politely decline the invite?
