Crete's Corner

Hey, so I know this is Cretes area of convo, but I think given anyone that read the original post it's also now the best place to do a language barrier check in good faith. Would people be ok with that? I'm curious about something

It is not my area of the convo, it is an open area for all to converse about whatever they so choose.

I will just try and seed the ground with a topic daily to drive conversation, that's all.

Anyone is always free to post about whatever they want so long as they're trying to engage with other people.

TLDR: check away man

Ok, so. This quote has been only exclusively lead to articles and comments suggesting 1 thing, but I can only read another.

This is specifically not a question of where do you stand, it's about grammar and reading comprehension and the difference between the same language and understanding each other better

"I would say that clearly on an individual, standalone basis, these promotions, both MVP and PFL, were not necessarily sustainable,” TKO president and chief operating officer Mark Shapiro said during a financial call with investors (via MMA Fighting). “Now they’ve come together, and we’ll see what they can conjure up. What we know is that competition has always made us stronger and a rising tide lifts all boats.”

As I read it, and am admittedly pretty bad at written grammar. After reading the , before the " is a conversationally paced opportunity to write added context as an author, You have noted a pause in tambor. Cool. There's also a full stop after conjur up. As I read it, that whole quote is, individually, they weren't an issue. Now together, lets see if they manage anything. If they do, we welcome it.

Others say its a tacit admission that they are already competition.

My mind jumps to agenda but then all over the internet, no 1 single person stepped in to suggest it was meant as I read things. So, am I wrong, foreign or maybe, biased???

I read that as neither would have succeeded on their own but together they feel stronger and like they can pose a challenge for other organisations ( likely ufc ) It is poorly worded

@Eranys is a good one to give an opinion

Yeah, I didn't hear it but I feel like punctuation and pacing as written is not what people are claiming. But I'm just asking to learn about a potential language difference

I read it as him essentially saying that TKO had, in the past, examined both MVP and PFL individually and come to the conclusion that neither were worth adjusting the overall business plan over because neither was likely to make it over the long run.

However, now that they have combined forces TKO is back on notice and evaluating MVP+PFL's actions and will consider adjusting their existing business plan if it becomes necessary to do so.

He adds the 'lets see what they conjure up' part to reassure investors that TKO hasn't made any adjustments solely based off the announcement, and that instead they are in a wait and see approach and ready to adjust as needed.

He picked those words to try not to freak investors out. If he had said, "we saw the merger and we're going to bury them no matter what it costs" investors would be concerned. If he said, "we saw the merger, it's a nothingburger and we're full steam ahead focused on our own brands. As far as we're concerned, nothing happened" that would also be concerning if you had a stake in TKO.

Ok, lets read into business strategy etc later. I'm only asking for good faith readings of the qoute as is and to use it as a case study on where the language gap lies between myself and others or that there's maybe others that read as I do.

So quote only, exclusive to this one question please.

If you wanna talk tko shit elsewhere we can

Crete Thoughts #2:

Pit got me thinking about this when he talked about his record collecting and the finds he had today. Music is such a part of all of our lives to some.vsrious degree or other, and I personally believe that our taste in music is heavily influenced by what were exposed to early on. For example, I'm a rock guy through and through. My #1 genre and nothing else comes close. And I can't tell you how many days in YoungCretes life were spent listening to 94.9 KCCO Classic Rock in the pickup with PapaCrete.

But at some point, our tastes diverge a bit and become our own. So my question for everyone today: what's the first album/vinyl/cd/8-track/cassette/whatever you had that made your parents or other caregivers go "ugh, wtf is that?!"

For me, I can think of two: a Weird Al Yankovic CD I got as a prize at a friend's birthday party (I still know Amish Paradise by heart) or Blink-182s Enema of the State CD (still my favorite band to this day, probably because of how much my mom hated that CD)

I grew up in a strict evangelical Christian home and didn't really get to own or play anything non-Christian. Still....occasionally a Christian band would put out a banger. I know my parents didn't like this band but it was Christian so I could own it. I don't believe any of that shit anymore but this song still kicks ass:

Hey, interesting question. While not explicitely christian facing, bands like Paramore and Evanesance are christian bands who do rock music. Was this known and did they have a pass or were they regardless only degen generation bands.

At the time they came out, I didn't know these things, both bands missed the time they may have appealed to me. I thought both singers were legit talents but outside of key singles I didn't pay attention. Decades later I saw them talking similar points to "we were not christian rock, but we were always christians making rock"

Another one of those bands: Skillet. And they fuckin JAM. Legit have several bangers.

Random question, do you feel like the hardcore Christian upbringing is what turned you off of it?

I get where you're going with it, crane operators are typically subcontracted out by unions.

I highly doubt that the President of the IUOE is capable of doing every one of the jobs that the 400,000 members of the union perform though.

Ditto with other large unions, Teamsters union has 1.3 million members and is lead up by Sean M. O'Brien.. O'Brien has a background in rigging and heavy equipment delivery and there are definitely roles within the Teamsters that he could perform, but he's also representing airline pilots and zookeepers.. you don't want Sean O'Brien piloting your commercial airline. It doesn't mean he's an ineffective leader though.

Let's use a business example. In my company the entire org chart ultimately rolls up to the CEO, who reports to the Board of Directors. Our CEO is very competent, but there are many technical roles within our company that our CEO could not step into and perform. Things like regulatory compliance, cybersecurity/IT and legal are not going to be within his wheelhouse and that's why he has hire people to perform those roles.

The more expansive an organization grows, the less a leaders job revolves around knowing how to do everything... and more around knowing how to identify people who know how to do particular things very well, and then ensuring they are performing them to the necessary level.
Can you expand upon this? Perhaps use some other examples?

Was it something he use to be able to do? Of course age is going to become a factor just ask @Jizz Karma and there's always going to cases where it's not always possible but for the most part if you can't do something you shouldn't ask someone else to.
IDK about this one. It’s a bit like ‘do unto others as you’d have done to yourself’.
It’s fine if you don’t know the other person, but if you do, you can do more as they would wish.
